IkamvaYouth’s mentor programme aims to support learners as they explore and understand the opportunities available to them. We have found that regular one-on-one consultation is critical for ensuring that learners prepare for their future.
Many learners are unaware of the requirements for tertiary study; notably that a matric exemption is required for eligibility for university.
IkamvaYouth mentors assist learners by:
- Ensuring that their subject package and marks fit the requirements for their chosen degrees / diplomas / learnerships
- Enabling learners to carry out the administration and planning around applying for tertiary education, learnerships, job shadowing opportunities and financial aid
- Helping them to write good curriculum vitas and letters for applying for scholarships
IkamvaYouth aims to allocate a mentor to each learner to ensure that they receive the individual attention they need. Volunteer tutors can choose to fulfill the responsibilities of mentorship as well, and can specify how many learners they are able to take on.
