Makhosi Gogwana
Co-founder Makhosi is a co-founder of IkamvaYouth. He is currently working for the Council for the Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as Social Scientist/Researcher. His present research work include; State-of-Rivers Reports and Water Resource Governance. The State-of-Rivers report is a project (commissioned by Department of Water Affairs and Forestry) designed to develop capacity and information base to enable South Africa to report on the ecological state of its rivers, in an objective and scientifically sound manner. The programme generates information which is based on the assessment of the condition of biological communities in and around rivers (such as fish, aquatic invertebrates, riparian vegetation, and river habitat). The Water Resource Governance Project (commissioned by the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry) is new field of research which attempt to solve some of the issues relating to the global and national water crisis, specifically the service delivery, management and implementation problems associated with policy and legislation. Makhosi is playing key role in both research projects in terms conducting scientifically sound research, project management, administration and implementation. Prior joining the CSIR, Makhosi worked forFahamu.org and Human Sciences Research Council respectively as a Researcher. He played vital role in research, administration, writing, distribution and promotion of Fahamu's electronic newsletters on Human Rights and Social Development in South Africa and Africa .Fahamu.org is an NGO that uses ICT to serve the needs of organizations and social movements that aspires to progressive social change, promotes and protect human rights as well as undertake social policy research in South Africa and Africa. Makhosi worked at Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) as Junior Researcher. He played a key role in the National Research and Development Survey (2001/2002 commissioned by the Department of Science and Technology), where he was involved in conducting research on the business sector R&D survey, managing higher education and business sector registry and databases. Makhosi also worked for the City of Cape Town as Administrator prior joining the HSRC. His involvement at IkamvaYouth included heading and facilitating the Global Education Initiative (a Ford Programme's initiative), tutoring Geography and playing a key role in supporting, protecting and promoting the mission, goals and objectives of IkamvaYouth. Makhosi also serves on the advisory board of IkamvaYouth. He holds Masters of Philosophy in Water Resources Management and BA (Hons) in Development Studies, and BA Geography at the University of the Western Cape . Makhosi believes that developing human capital and social transformation are key aspects for a healthy nation.
