The launch of the new IkamvaYouth-tuxLab (computer laboratory for the clueless) on the morning of the 26th was quite a spectacle. Those present would have witnessed a vibrant celebration of achievement and commitment towards social upliftment through education.

The diversity of interested parties present was an indication of the extensive collaboration that was involved in making the IkamvaYouth-tuxLab a reality. VIA technologies (donated the thin clients), JMC (funded the server), the Shuttleworth Foundation (setup the server), The Department of Social Development: Library and Information Services (provided  much infrastructure) and of course a dedicated team of Ikamva volunteers all played their varied but vital roles. This lab will give Ikamva students as well as the community at large fantastic access to some of the latest IT technology,  educational opportunities and in the future a means to communicate with the world at large.

Bongani and Ncebakazi were MCs par excellence, keeping the audience entertained whilst ensuring the smooth flow of proceedings. Ninnie Steyn, in her speech emphasized the power of public collaboration in making this city and South Africa  a better place to live in. Joy, in a heart felt address thanked all those for their respective participation. This was followed by poetry by Thobela and Theo as well as a speech by Phillip and Werner. This was moving stuff, enthused with themes of hope, gratitude and the union of youth both black and white. To any person present it was an emotive display of what is possible in our new South Africa. From here on the entertainment stepped up a notch. It began with a rhythmic and stunning display from the Living Story guys and climaxed with a performance of massive proportions. Lungelo and Sean had young, old, black and white jamming to their unique hip-hop sound.

It was a morning representative of what is possible with the right mix of energy, hope and passion for change. The new IkamvaYouth-tuxLab will provide an exciting new realm of possibilities for Ikamva's current and countless future learners.
