Zukile Keswa
Financial Task team memberZukile is a member of the Finance task team, and is responsible for ensuring that learners who receive loans from the application and registration loan fund repay their debts timeously. He also tutors accounting, and he stresses the importance of not “spoon-feeding” learners, but rather asking them many questions to help them figure out the answers themselves. Zukile joined IkamvaYouth in 2004, when he was in grade 11. He joined because he was struggling to improve his symbols, and now he is helping other learners to improve theirs. Zukile is a member of IkamvaYouth's core team of volunteers because he wants to see the organisation developing, and continue helping other people and making a difference to his community. “Khayelitsha is a disadvantaged are, and although I grew up and live in this environment, I believe that I can make a difference in someone's life, which is why I spend my time volunteering to IkamvaYouth. The thing that I like most is helping other people so that they can also help others.” Zukile is currently studying his Bcom General at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). He also participated in a Lucca Leadership weekend course in 2006. Zukile enjoys listening to music, watching movies, reading books and chatting with people. He likes to spend most of his time on the Internet. He plans to complete his honours and masters in Accounting, and thereafter work as an accountant. He is confident that he will be able to continue making a positive difference in South Africa – he has already begun by being a member of IkamvaYouth. He plans to continue ploughing back into his community by encouraging youth to join IkamvaYouth so that they can be helped.
