IkamvaYouth is based at the Nazeema Isaacs library, and our office is part of the building that houses the Desmond Tutu Hall in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. As of Saturday, the hall was full with 550 people -- many of whom had not eaten since Thursday. On Sunday night the hall was filled with 700 people -- most of them Zimbabwean. Today (Friday 30 May), we have 400 people in the hall. Today is their eighth day in the hall, and the situation is desperate. There are 20 infants, 3 pregnant women (one in severe pain), and people are beginning to get sick. They are all sleeping on the concrete floor, and we are struggling to ensure that everyone gets fed. Although TAC and other organisations are doing an INCREDIBLE job at coordinating civil society's response to the crisis, and ensuring that donations reach those in need, more help is needed. Ikamvanites, led by Bongani Ndubata, are helping out at the Desmond Tutu hall, and purchasing goods most needed by the refugees, as soon as funds arrive in our account. Please help us to enable the members of the Makhaza community who are against these xenophobic attacks to help the victims of this disturbing violence. South Africa was known as a peaceful country which allowed everyone to live in it and unite with each other. But after this, I don't think that this country will be taken as a country with love and peace. People must think before they do, because they just do with knowing what the future brings . For instance, why is a person from Britain just taken as a tourist while a person from Zimbabwe is called a foreigner? I don't even think that the 2010 world cup will be hosted in South Africa, This country is a disgrace. In fact, in this moment I'm not proud of being a South African. Ikamva is making a huge difference and I hope that these victims will appreciate what the they get, They will also notice that not everybody is involved in these xenophobic attacks . Those people who did that xenophobic attack was not realy want those Zimbabweans to leave this country. They were only trying to take their things and destroy their businesses because those people know how to do business without qualifications and assistance. Those people can make a better living without any help from the goverment as South Africans do. They are more interligent than South Africans. They can do things and those stupid South Africans took their bread from their mouths and leave them without nothing becouse of jelousy. I wish a bad luck for those who commits those xenophobic attacks even those who want/buy things cheaper. We will try to help them with anything that we have. People who did those attacks and those who get arrested by cops must be sentenced until those Zimbabwean victims get all the things that they lost. They must be sentenced until 2010 and 2011 passes.Becouse they will embarass our country.

I think xenophobic attack is the crime and the people who did this thing should be arrested for long . Because this is not good at all , South African we should say NO to xenophobia. These people helped us a lot by the time of apartheid. The political leaders when they were at exile they went to other countries that are in upper AFRICA . And they helped us to bring freedom to our country, so they are one of South African family .We are all African lets stay united , Lets not beat these people , lets love them as we love our selves ,Because the way that we doing things it will not change anything instead we are robbing these guys and that is crime . People in Makhaza are just doing it for fun just to gain something out of foreigners. It's not that they want them to leave. These guys do not hurt anyone, but are boosting our community, giving our sisters jobs in their stands and selling usefull things. But South Africans don't seem to be appreciating that. Now people are sitting in their houses with nothing to eat. Foreigners are living in a big fear. They think everyone in Makhaza wants them gone but it's not like that. Not all of us want them to leave South Africa. **Tha's true girl but the thing is we do not know how to have fun.Bayaphi oo--jingi? Have we stopped playing hide & seek? South African children need to be thought what is meant by "having fun"

**South African people are treating the foreigners inhumanely. There are no relevent reasons why they commit such cruelty. We fought for freedom, yet we are not free in our minds and hearts. We have forgotten our past as "Abantu abantsundu". These so-called "amakwiri-kwiri" are helping us and boosting our economy but we don't realise that. They create job opportunities for us, they rent our yards in return for hot cash. We defend our violent acts by saying "they are cheap labourers" not realising that they are in need of that income. No matter how much it is but to them it makes a difference. We are just hungry for their belongings. If we're really chasing them away then why are we taking their belongings? It's painful because these sins are committed by teenagers with the help of their parents. We are not all supporting xenophobia, so we are not forced to treat our neighbours, friends, husbands and employers like wild animals.
