IkamvaYouth, together with the Shuttleworth Foundation, has developed e-literacy training materials that enable trainers with basic computer literacy skills and some experience using free and open source software (FOSS) to deliver fun, engaging, youth-focused, context-specific lessons. Aligned with the learning outcomes identified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Computer Applications Technology (CAT) national curriculum, the step-by-step lesson plans are task-based, so students learn to use computers while engaging in activities that are relevant and useful to their lives (e.g. compiling CVs or developing business plans while learning how to use computers).
The curriculum comprises 15 units of 3 hours each.
